Calaveras County Fair & Frog Jump Jubilee

Apr 27, 2018

For a fun and exciting event that you won’t soon forget, head to the Calaveras County Fair and Frog Jump Jubilee. Based off the beloved short story, “The Celebrated Frog of Calaveras County” by Mark Twain, the fair event is a fun county fair unlike any before! This event takes place May 17th through the 20th. Read on for more information about this family friendly event.

The Frog Jump Jubilee has been around since 1928, making it one of the longest running events in California. The pinnacle of the county fair is the amphibian faceoff where participants enter their best jumpers and with the help of some shouts and ground slaps, try to get their amphibians jumping! Anything but nudges and pokes is allowed to encourage their frogs to leap the farthest and to leave the other frogs behind. The best jump ever goes tot Rosie the Ribeter, who leapt an impressive 21 feet in a single bound! Will this year be the year that someone beats Rosie? There’s certainly more fun to enjoy than just the exciting frog jump off.

Throughout the other days there will be a number of events that will keep you entertained all day. There will be a variety of contests from best baked goods to best local winemaker! Enjoy parades, classic carnival rides, stick horse racing, live music and rodeo events! Rodeo events include 3 man cattle penning, 2-person cattle penning, ranch roping, cattle sorting and more. Other fun events include the youth talent show, the arm wrestling competition, and of course the Frog Jump Finals! If you are located in nearby Jackson City, consider stopping by Calaveras County for the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee taking place on May 17th through the 20th. Enjoy this family friendly event unlike any you’ve likely seen before!
