If you are in Sutter Creek during the end of August, do not miss out on the incredible Jug Band Festival! The Jug Band Festival is a day filled with music that will get you up and dancing and moving to the beat. This year, the Jug Band Festival will take place on August 20th at the historic Sutter Creek Inn. The event is FREE and open to the public so don’t miss out on this fun event that the whole family can enjoy.

If you have never attended a Jug Band Festival, get ready for an experience that you will remember for a long time to come. Jug Band Music is the grassroots of blues and the music is performed with anything that can produce music. While there are traditional items such as acoustic guitars, banjos, fiddles, and upright basses, there are also other items used such as saws, spoons, washboards and you guessed it, even jugs! This international festival brings together bands from near and far as performers who love the sound of jug music spread their joyful sounds to guests. This year, you can listen to favorite jug artists such as 5 cent Coffee and FreeBadge Serenaders. Other bands include Jailhouse Stringband, South Sac Jooks, Willi Norton playing Sierra Blues music and Jr & Jug!

The annual Jug Band Music Festival started years ago in 2002 when friends Andy Fahrenwald and Wayne Hagen decided to bring a variety of Jug bands from Northern and Southern California to Sutter Creek. It was the first time that jug bands from throughout California were able to meet up and listen to other jug bands! As the tradition continued, the event grew and the artists began to play for all those who wanted to listen. The result is the now annual Jug Band Festival! Mark your calendars for this exciting event!

Consider staying in one of the budget-friendly hotels in Sutter Creek if you are coming in from out of town for the annual Jug Band Festival.
